“Trips Without Maps” is a new collection of acrylic paintings by British artist, Iain Lonsdale. These paintings are an expression of the tension between conflicting forces of chaos and confinement. They are a direct response of his need to find harmony and space within the densely populated urban environments. He explores form, colour and space with no preconceived plan or destination.

Iain is a self-taught artist with no formal training and has developed a method of working that is simple and organic. “I don’t make initial sketches, the empty canvas is marked by either a line, shape or colour. I build the image in stages, each stage a reaction to the previous one. The artwork is completed when I feel the painting has achieved a sense of unity in my world of chaos”.

The ARTIST says the works have no political agenda, philosophy or ideology to communicate. “My paintings are visual articulations of emotional implosion triggered by a sense of compression.
My works are unstructured and spontaneous in direct reaction to the process and order of Tokyo.”

Enjoy the trip!
