In association with the LGBTQIA+ festival “Q(WE)R” and gallery “The Container”, UltraSuperNew Gallery Harajuku will host the group exhibition “Exercise in Unlocking Heteronormativity, part II” from April 26th (Tue) to May 6th (Fri) 2022. The exhibition will feature works from 8 different LQBTQIA+ artists, and will explore a variety of means to negotiate issues relating to social minorities, gender, and sexual identity.

Presenting works in sculpture, installation, video, painting, painting, and text, viewers are invited to delve into the personal and intimate worlds of the artists as means to reflect and engage through artmaking their notions of queerness — examining contemplation and joy.

In addition, a reception party will be held on April 29th (Fri) from 19:00〜22:00, as well as a live performance featuring 4 artists on May 3rd (Tue) from 19:00〜23:00. We look forward to your visit!

Live Performance: Q(WE)R RADIO – Comme à la radio

5/3 (Tue) 19:00〜23:00

Two queer artists will deliver a new performance piece based on the archived sounds of the radio program ``Snakeman Show`` which was broadcasted from the late 70's to the 80's by Takashi Otsuka. A modeling artist and writer, his show broadcasted to listeners a positive way of living for gay men.

Touching on topics such as prejudiced and ridiculous sex education, gay liberation, and anger at Japanese society's disdain for women, his radio still brings awareness and hope 40 years later. You can listen to Tac's program on the Snakeman Show on his YouTube channel as well.

``Q(WE)R RADIO – Comme à la radio`` is a performance program in association with the group exhibition hosted by Q(WE)R - International Queer Culture Festival.
