Eirdís H. Chen Ragnarsdóttir is an Icelandic & Chinese artist based in Beijing. With a mixed cultural background, she began contemplating ideas regarding identity from an early age. Furthermore, her battles with issues of body image for over a decade gave Eirdís a deeper understanding of the ephemeral quality of the self. Eirdís began painting self-investigative artwork as a teenager, which she continued during her independent studies at Gallatin, New York University, after completing her course of traditional oil painting at Central Academy of Beijing. Through the lens of psychoanalysis and psychology, Eirdís links her cultural and bodily struggles to the wider issue of identity in the age of globalization and social media.

We’re keeping it creative from our gallery to you! UltraSuperNew Gallery is excited to present our very first installation of “IN STUDIO”, an entirely virtual glimpse into the creative process of a resident artist!
It is our pleasure to introduce @Eirdis , an Icelandic & Chinese artist. Her paintings are brimming with spontaneity and present an instrumental use of color as metaphor for the coalescence of the mind with material: an organic bridge into the subconscious.
Using USNG as her studio from today until April 20th, Eirdis will bring her world into the gallery’s space, and then straight to you! Tune in for this new and exciting chapter here at USNG!
