The art exhibition transports visitors directly into Soph O’s (@waywardclouds) colourful mind, where transformation is represented in every hue. A celebration of both the past and future coexisting as one, the exhibition explores renewal as a necessary form of growth.
Reimagine. Reconstruct. Repeat.
The artist’s process is mechanical in nature, using recycled materials and resurrecting them through a labour intensive process. The end result is reimagined as fluid, evocative and playful
– unrecognisable from its original form. Prints exhibited are one-of-a-kind pieces resulting from multiple residual spray paint jobs with bursts of colour mimicking aura photographs.
On painting within the lines.
The show also sees Soph’s debut into canvas art alongside wooden cut-outs and collages. Her array of canvas paintings, titled ‘And everyday is just more of the same thing’ came about from the height of pandemic introspection and isolation in Berlin, with nothing but spray cans and a handful of inherited square canvases from a defunkt restaurant. Despite the limiting nature of square canvas pieces, the artist found new ways to circumvent boundaries by re-discovering the power of spray paint in new ways. These spray paints were used to create depth and texture in the form of grain and speckles of multi-colours working harmoniously together. Where flat colours come to life, the closer you venture.
A curated collection of A5 collages, spray speckled pieces, wooden cut-out assemblages and canvases of varying sizes are exhibited in ‘Infinite Spray, Overplay, I just want to lie down everyday’.
The gallery space will be transformed into a living, breathing, playground-portal – enveloping visitors with a range of colours, shapes and emotions of every shade.
